Stroll Down Karl-Marx-Allee

This 90m wide boulevard, between the ‘wedding cake’ towers at Frankfurter Tor and stretching towards Alexanderplatz, offers an immersion in Soviet urban planning and architecture. A team of architects carved it out of the old Stalinallee, making it wide enough for tanks and goose-stepping troops to file down the middle every May Day. Café Moskau, ground zero for ‘commie chic’ lovers, still stands, as does the old International Kino cinema.
