Just when you thought that nothing could replace Fussball (table football) as the German national table sport, along comes ping-pong. You’ll find all-weather concrete tables in parks, other, daintier ones set up in galleries and well-worn

versions in a few hip watering holes (most famously, Dr. Pong). Games played here are frenzied eliminations, with as many as 20 people circling the tables, trying to hit the ball in turn.
