Tram

Amsterdam has 16 tramlines and 232 city trams which travel over 80 kilometres of track. Routes and timetables can be seen on the www.gvb.nl website, and you pay on the tram or stamp your strippenkart. Many trams start their journeys from Centraal Station. Unlike the bus and metro, trams travel through the main shopping streets. Recent expansion includes tram 26 to the eastern IJburg archipelago, which began operating in 2005. Newer-style trams can accommodate wheelchairs and baby buggies. Once stamped, your ticket can be used for up to one hour on other trams or alternative modes of transport. Trams stop around midnight, when night buses come into operation.
