As in any rapidly expanding economy, there are soaring successes and some stories of failure. While many international firms are doing well in Beijing, not all are getting their business models right. It’s not unknown for even the largest language schools to fold suddenly. So, it’s best to have an exit plan (and back-up funds) in case the Beijing adventure goes belly-up. Check the details of any contract closely, and ensure you have the contact details of a lawyer you can trust. If things go really awry, you could also try filing a complaint to China’s Foreign Affairs Bureau (外事局).
