Electricity & Water

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) provides these utilities across the emirate and it’s easy to sign up at one of its customer care centres or online at dewa.gov.ae. You can expect to pay around Dhs.700 per month for a one-bedroom apartment or from Dhs.1,200 per month for a three-bedroom villa.

The electricity supply in Dubai is 220/240 volts. The socket type is identical to the three-point UK system but most appliances here are sold with two-pin plugs. Adaptors can be bought from any grocery store or hardware shop.

There is no mains gas supply in Dubai so you’ll need to buy individual gas cylinders from companies including Oasis (04 396 1812) and Al Fahidi Gas (04 351 6452). New connections start at Dhs.250, and Dhs.38 per small cylinder.
Rubbish collection
Rubbish disposal is efficient, with municipality trucks driving around each area and emptying skips daily. Just empty your household bins into the skips (there is usually one on every street). If you don’t have a skip on your street, then contact Dubai Municipality on 800 900 to request one. Certain areas, such as Emirates Living, have wheelie bins outside each house, where waste is regularly collected from. Recycling efforts are poor but slowly improving.
