Away from the cities, the UAE has a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts, especially mountain bikers. On a mountain bike it’s possible to see the most remote and untouched places that are not even accessible in 4WDs. For hardcore, experienced bikers there is some good terrain, from super-technical rocky trails in areas like Fili and Siji, to mountain routes like Wadi Bih, which climb to over 1,000m and can be descended in minutes. Even if you are experienced, always be sensible and go prepared – the sun is strong, you will need far more water than you think, and it’s easy to get lost. Wide, knobbly tires work much better on the loose, sharp rocks.
