There's never a more tragic time than when a friend or relative dies. While there is a lot of bureaucracy surrounding a death here, and the involvement of the hospital, the police, your embassy and the Ministry of Health, there are a number of companies who can take care of the practical matters and advise on all aspects of the mourning process.Contact Middle East Funeral Services for help.

What next?
In the event of a death outside a hospital, the first thing to do is to notify the police by dialing 999. The police will then file a report and the body will be taken to Rashid Hospital where a doctor will determine the cause of death and produce a report; this usually takes three to five days. If the death occurs in a hospital, then that hospital will be responsible for completing an initial death report and transferring the deceased to the mortuary.

In either event, the process for registering a death then varies depending on the deceased’s religion and whether he or she was an expat or not; contact your embassy for guidelines on what the next steps are. Here is a basic checklist of what the process may involve:
  • Applying for a death certificate
  • Registering a death
  • Arranging a cremation
  • Arranging a burial (Christian)
  • Arranging a burial (Muslim)
  • Returning a body to its home country
