Parking
Parking at your home won’t be a problem. Houses are built back from the road and will have space to park at least one car, often two or three. Most apartments or condos will come with on-site parking too. Away from home it’s a different story. You may get a season ticket from your employer to park at work, if not you can usually pay to leave your vehicle in the building’s public carpark. Expect to pay RM4 to RM8 per hour to park in the city centre. Cheaper options are the open-air carparks that appear on every empty piece of land in the city centre, although be aware that security at these may not be as good as at building carparks. On-street parking is cheaper still but very hard to find. You pay for this at parking meters, usually at a rate of RM1 per hour (you can use 10, 20 and 50 sen coins). Shopping centres have their own carparks, and these are usually cheaper in the suburbs than the city centre, although all parking is cheap by European standards. Expect to pay about RM20 to park for the day at a city centre office building. Illegal parking is a common problem, but parking enforcement is sporadic and you’ll seldom see a car being clamped or removed.
