Driving on Beijing’s streets can sometimes feel like you are in a land without laws. However, there are traffic rules that prove costly when broken. Traffic violations in Beijing can result in anything from a small fine to a jail sentence. Fines should be paid promptly at your local ICBC (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China), police station, or at the location stipulated on the ticket.

Driving under the influence can result in jail time of between eight to 10 days.

Driving with a suspended or cancelled licence can result in jail time of 15 days.
