Vehicle Repairs

If you purchased your vehicle from a 4S store, they will be able to provide repair and maintenance services that are compatible with your car insurance. If you purchased the car by other means, you should check with your insurance provider for recommended garages. However, even if you choose a garage that has not been recommended, your insurance provider should still cover their share of the repair costs. You don’t need to file a police report for repairs, unless the repairs are the result of a traffic accident. Car owners should bring their car licence when they go for major and minor repairs.

Given the amount of available labour in China, it is surprising that there are so few motor mechanics available. This means that car owners hoping for amazing deals on repairs are likely to be disappointed. Standard procedures like changing a battery usually cost around ¥395 plus a ¥30 labour fee. Fixing a broken air conditioner will cost somewhere in the neighbourhood of ¥3,000 while installing airbags can set you back ¥16,000. The best insurance companies will pay 100% of the repairs without a deductible, but most car owners opt for cheaper policies that offer 80% coverage.
