Steglitz
Though cheaper and more central than Zehlendorf, Steglitz is similar in its appeal: plentiful green spaces, proximity to the city, a family-friendly atmosphere with a dose of culture. Steglitz is unusually lively for an outer district, and Schloßstrasse, the colourful 2km main drag, bustles with shops, cafes, cinemas and restaurants. Between all the parks and lakes, Steglitz has also managed to pack in an impressive roster of events. The Schwartzsche Villa hosts concerts, readings, exhibitions and theatre performances for both adults and children. Families, seniors and a few students from the nearby Freie Universitätb live here. New arrivals, whether from similarly suburban areas of other cities or from elsewhere in Berlin, are often surprised by how much there is to do in Steglitz.
