Alternative Therapies

The Ministry of Health grants licences to and administrates qualified practitioners of alternative medicine through its dedicated department for Traditional, Complementary & Alternative Medicine. Natural medicine can be very specialised, so when consulting with someone, do make sure that you ask questions and explain your needs and expectations. This will ensure that practitioners can indeed help with your situation. Prices vary greatly but are generally comparable to western medicine, however most insurance companies will not cover the costs of alternative therapies. As always, word of mouth is the best way of establishing who might offer the most appropriate treatment.

Yoga and pilates are available at a number of studios and health clubs. Fitness-focused, clinical and classic, meditative forms of yoga are available. There is also a range of clinics that provide ‘well-being’ services, such as U Concept, which combines personal fitness, a balanced nutrition plan and numerous relaxation techniques, in order to help you achieve the healthy lifestyle you’re looking for.

Dubai Herbal & Treatment Centre (04 335 1200) in Oud Metha offers a range of treatments and diagnostic procedures from conventional and alternative medical schools of thought. You can get everything from a tailor-made detox plan, to ozone therapy and allergy testing, as well as massage and a myriad of other complimentary medicines.
