Applying For A Passport For A Newborn
You will need a passport if you plan to travel overseas with your baby; most importantly, you need a passport in order to apply for a residence visa for your child – and you must apply for this visa within four months of the birth or face daily fines of Dhs.100.
You cannot apply for a UAE passport if you are not a GCC national. The process may differ depending on nationality and you will need to consult your embassy directly for specific details, but the general requirements are outlined below.
NOTE: You do not need a birth certificate of the country you are applying to for a passport; you can use your UAE birth certificate.
Prerequisites
- Check with your embassy before the birth to determine the rules for citizens born abroad
- You need to have registered the birth with your embassy
What to bring
- Birth certificate – UAE or home country.
- Two passport-sized photos of your child.
- Registration of birth certificate (issued by your embassy).
- One parent’s full birth certificate or naturalisation certificate.
- Proof of identity (passport, government-issued photo ID, etc).
Procedure
- Contact your embassy for details on the application process.
