Although San Francisco is more famous for being home to a large population of gay and lesbian residents, Los Angeles can boast an equally robust scene. One entire municipality – West Hollywood – is even known as ‘boy’s town’, where on any given night, gay-owned, frequented and friendly cafes, nightclubs and performances abound. Perhaps because of the prominence of the entertainment industry, in which gay men and lesbians have both found acceptance and played prominent roles, attitudes toward homosexuality tend to be very liberal, and gay culture is accepted as one of the many that make up the tapestry of life in LA.
