People With Disabilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act, signed into law in 1990, changed the way those with physical or mental limitations experience life all over the US. As a result, all public transportation and public services must be wheelchair accessible. In Los Angeles, that means that buses and municipal buildings are equipped with ramps and, where appropriate, wide doorways and accessible facilities. Restaurants, hotels, movie theatres – essentially any public space – must also conform to these rules. Generally speaking, LA is an easy place to live and get around for those with disabilities. There are some older buildings that won’t be able to accommodate those with extra needs, so it’s always a good idea to call ahead and inquire about any concerns.
