It is important to avoid oil installations or anything remotely governmental as fishing is illegal in these areas, but there are plenty of other sites of interest on the charts that will offer a selection of exciting fishing grounds. Look for seabed changes and sources of food such as underwater springs, underwater cliffs, wrecks and areas where currents will bring in nutrients.

The most productive fishing season lasts from September to April, although it is still possible to catch Sailfish and Queenfish in the summer months. Fish commonly caught in the waters off the UAE’s coast include king mackerel, tuna, bonito, kingfish, and jacks.

Part of the attraction in owning your own boat is the freedom to explore for yourself what the region has to offer, but if you fancy having your fishing excursion arranged for you, a number of charter firms offer these. 

Alternative Fishing Adventures 
Creek Fishing
On a Friday, you could hire an abra for the morning (either at the Bur Dubai or Deira landing steps) and ask your driver to take you out to the mouth of the creek for a bit of fishing. Always agree on a price before you leave. 
 
Kayak Fishing
For something a little different, Noukhada (noukhada.ae) offers catch-and-release kayak fishing in the mangroves of Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates.
