The most efficient way of travelling to central Amsterdam from Schiphol is by train, and you can buy tickets at the yellow machines in the baggage hall and plaza (€3.60). Trains run right through the night (one an hour) and it takes approximately 15 minutes from the airport to Centraal Station, 30 minutes to Den Haag, and an hour to Rotterdam. Taxis are available at the rank outside and the fare to the city centre is approximately €40. Some hotels provide their own free shuttle bus from the airport, otherwise there is the Conexxion hotel shuttle bus (038 339 47 41) that services 100 hotels. It runs between 06:00 and 21:00 and the fee is €11 one way. And you don’t have to be staying at a hotel to use it!
