Schiphol Airport
Schiphol (www.schiphol.nl) is a sleek, highly efficient airport used by 40 million passengers each year. It is only 14 km from the city centre and easily reachable by train (15 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal Station), car or taxi. There is one terminal building, and commercial activity is centred around Schiphol Plaza. Business services include numerous airline lounges on the upper floor, a business point in the arrivals hall where chauffeurs can wait, a communication centre in departure lounges one and two, and wi-fi in several locations (and roaming), although you have to pay for this facility. Holland Casino has two mini outposts, there’s an annexe of the Rijksmuseum (ten Dutch masters in the gallery plus a shop), children can be amused in special play areas between gates E and F, and there is a multi-denominational meditation room. Shopping is popular all over Schiphol Plaza and on the first floor there are duty free shops. You can even get married here, with four arrangements from the speedy Say Yes and Go (onto the plane) to Ready for Take Off. First aid and emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is provided by Airport Medical Services: 020 649 25 66 (above departure hall two). If you lose something at Schiphol the number is 0900 0141. There is a €5 administration fee for each item when you pick it up.
