Horta-Guinardó
This large residential district spreads up the hillside to the west of Eixample, consisting of several neighbourhoods linked by parks. Guinardó is a tranquil city suburb that has much in common with Eixample, while working-class Horta, further up the hill, was once a farming village (horta means ‘vegetable patch’ in Catalan). Small vegetable patches still occupy the rare patches of flat land between the apartment blocks. Guinardó’s festa major (traditional festival) takes place in early June.
