Sant Marti has come a long way in recent years. The renovation of this once-dilapidated industrial district was started for the 1992 Olympics and continues apace. It also has several distinct barrios, including Vila Olímpica, Poblenou, Besòs, and Clot. These days it has much to offer: beaches, futuristic architecture, regeneration projects and some startlingly pretty old streets around Poblenou and Clot. The contrast between these former villages and the district’s plunge into the future makes Sant Marti a diverse, surprising place.
