l’Hospitalet de Llobregat

Toto, we’re not in Barcelona anymore. L’Hospitalet is a self-governing municipality and the second biggest Catalan city, with around 250,000 inhabitants. However, the journey from Barcelona is seamless. Keep your eyes peeled for signs proudly announcing that you’re now in L’Hospitalet. The town has six administrative neighbourhoods (Santa Eulàlia; Collblanc i la Torrassa; Centre, Sant Josep i Sanfeliu; Bellvitge i el Gornal; Pubilla Casas i Can Serra, and Florida i les Planes). It is a largely working-class area that grew considerably during the Sixties. Like many Catalan towns, the centre of L’Hospitalet has a few historic buildings and low-rise apartment blocks, while further out, the apartment buildings get taller. The town is currently in a period of serious urban redevelopment and, hopefully, improvement. Oh, and it’s also the birthplace of superstar chef, Ferran Adrià.
