Beijing residents pay sewerage fees through the water bill. The system is reasonably good, though many apartments will have serious problems with odours. More than 60% of Chinese towns and cities lack sewage treatment facilities, but as part of the Olympic bid Beijing set a goal of treating and recycling over 90% of its waste water.
