Jewellery & Watches
You may not be able to have breakfast at Tiffany’s in Berlin, as the famous jeweller is yet to open one of its stores here, but you can definitely spend your lunch hour surrounded by opulent bling at the many high-end jewellers in the city.
Kurfürstendamm is the place to head if you’ve just remembered that today is your wedding anniversary, with brilliant displays of Cartier and Bulgari, as well some less renowned but equally refined jewellers. Doris Imhoff is one of the biggest names in Berlin jewellery design, and has several concept stores that will lighten your wallet if you’re in search of the perfect pair of earrings. Department store Quartier 206 has a range of jewellery from international labels such as Lanvin and the signature chunky style of Gem Palace. However, if your arms aren’t quite long enough to reach that far into your pockets then the chain store Christ has a nice range of jewellery and watches at moderate prices. You’ll find one of their stores in most major shopping streets and arcades. For something a bit more unique Goldschmiede Atelier is home to well-known German goldsmith Claudia Bätge, who makes stunning silver and gold rings that were inspired by the textures of the tea-tree plant in Australia.
More affordable, and best for those looking for edgy urban accessories, is Kettenreaktion in Friedrichshain, which has handmade, extravagant necklaces and rings (and will happily make jewellery to order). Check out Uhranus, too, for Diesel watches among its funky range of jewellery, home-ware and streetwear (030 4479 3901).
