Switching Providers & Keeping Your Number
Until late 2013, ‘number portability’ wasn’t possible in the UAE. Now it is – but providers are being slightly coy about how to go about it. (After all, neither wants to lose their own customers). However, it is straightforward to arrange.
Prerequisites
- An existing Etisalat or du account number.
Procedure
Switching to du
- SMS ‘CHANGE’ to 3553
- du will send you a message, and you then visit any of their stores with your passport or Resident ID.
- Pay the standard activation charge for your new plan: Dhs.55 for pre-paid and Dhs.150 for post-paid.
Switching to Etisalat
- Call Etisalat on 101
- Visit one of its business centres with your passport or Resident ID.
- Pay the standard activation charge for your new plan: Dhs.40 for pre-paid and Dhs.125 for post-paid.
