Government Healthcare
This is free (or comes with a minimum charge) and geared towards Malaysians. Other than doctors, most staff in government facilities will speak little English. Signs and other information are in Bahasa Malaysia, and only holders of a MyKAD (Malaysian ID card) are eligible for anything beyond emergency care. This effectively rules out expats. Government hospitals are heavily used and resources are tight. Malaysians with money usually opt for private care. Many doctors who have had their training paid for by the government serve a minimum term in state hospitals before going into private practice. This can mean that there’s a lack of experienced doctors at government hospitals, although some do stay in the public sector.
