Organised Trips

Whether you’re after a leisurely paddle along the coastline, or want to try your hand at a competitive race out at sea, kayaking is one of the easiest sports to take part in. Many of the UAE’s beach hotels such as the Hilton Jumeirah Dubai Hotel and the Hiltonia Beach Club Abu Dhabi provide hourly kayak hire (around Dhs.100 per hour).

In fact, taking to a kayak is just about the best way to get up close to the region’s wildlife and wild coastline. With paddle power alone, you can glide silently across pristine lagoons and through gnarly mangrove forests. It is incredibly easy to get started; for a paddle through the mangroves of Abu Dhabi, head to Qasr Al Bahr towards the shore and you can launch your kayak off the jetty. Or try the swamps of Khor Kalba - just head over the bridge towards the Children’s Park and head for the conservation reserve. In most locations, you’ll come across curious turtles that like to pop up and say hello. If you’re looking for a more challenging and intensive ride, try the white water rapids at Wadi Adventure in Al Ain where hardcore kayak enthusiasts can test their skills down one of three man-made routes.

Many of the UAE’s tour operators organise kayak excursions in some of the country’s most rich and diverse marine habitats. Noukhada Adventure Company is an eco-aware tour operator that has been a pioneer of such kayak tours in the UAE. The trip to the east coast destination of Khor Kalba, which has the oldest mangroves in Arabia and is home to the incredibly rare and endangered white-collared kingfisher, is highly recommended.
