Applying to become a Chinese citizen is extremely difficult. Citizenship is rarely granted and not often attempted. The Nationality Law of China states that Chinese citizens may only have one passport and the country does not recognise dual citizenship. Those applying to become a Chinese citizen would need to relinquish their passport and may have difficulty getting visas to their own country afterwards. Children born to one Chinese and one foreign parent must choose an official nationality for the child.
