If you have applied for multiple entry (eligible on Z, D, X, F and J visas) you will generally be issued a single entry visa, which then needs to be upgraded within 30 days of arriving. This must be done at the Exit & Entry Administration of Beijing (Municipal Public Security Bureau, 2 Andingmen Dongdajie, Dongcheng, 010 8402 0101). There are fees for all visas, which vary according to number of entries requested and in which country you apply (with the exception of the US, where all visas cost ¥750). Fees generally range from ¥195 to ¥460 for one entry and ¥585 to ¥1,380 for year-long visas with multiple entries. Some consulates only accept cash, so it’s best to check in advance.
