Vets & Kennels
You should only take your pets to legally registered, officially designated veterinary hospitals. These hospitals are required to purchase their vaccines from the Animal Husbandry Bureau which in turn purchases high quality, internationally registered vaccines from Europe and North America. There is some variation in the care provided by official hospitals. Some, for example, offer acupuncture services (generally ¥50 to ¥70 per session) for pets. General check-ups for small pets cost around ¥200. Kennel standards vary widely. Check the facility before boarding your animal to review standards of services such as exercise, grooming, feeding and cage space. High-end kennels provide 24 hour service and maintain boarding logs that owners can request upon retrieving their pets. Prices vary, but expect to pay ¥60 to ¥130 per night depending on the size of the animal.
