Renewing A Residence Visa - Family

A family residence visa expires after two years (or three depending on sponsor’s contract), and will have to be renewed. You will also have to renew it if you are outside of Dubai for six months or more, which will render it void.

Prerequisites

  • Immediate family members only (wife, husband, children).
  • Sons must be under the age of 18 or in full-time education.
  • Daughters older than 18 must be unmarried.
  • Family member is resident in the UAE.
  • Medical test completed (and passed) if over 15 years old.

What to bring

  • Passport of the sponsored (original).
  • Passport of the sponsor (copy).
  • Medical test certificate of the sponsored (if over 15 years old).
  • Three passport-sized photos of the sponsored.
  • The sponsor’s work contract if working for a private company or salary certificate if working for a governmental department.
  • Tenancy contract attested through Ejari, the online system of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).
  • Last DEWA bill.
  • Resident ID renewal application form (certified by the Registration Centre at the Emirates Identity Authority) for both sponsor and sponsored.

Procedure

  • General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).
  • While a company PRO will usually process the visa renewal for an employment residence visa, the sponsor himself may have to process renewing a family member’s visa.
  • First visit a typing centre with documents to complete relevant application form, then submit at your nearest GDRFA branch.
