Transfering A Residence Visa - Employment

If you change jobs (and therefore sponsorship) before completing your contracted two years you will need to transfer your residence visa to your new employer. You will also need an NOC from your previous employer to avoid receiving a two-year labour ban from the Ministry of Labour; if you work in a free zone, this labour ban would only apply to that particular free zone. You are free to switch jobs anywhere in the UAE once you have completed the minimum two or three years’ service as per your contract.

Prerequisites

  • UAE residence visa
  • New job offer

What to bring

  • Passport with residence visa
  • Previous labour card (copy)
  • Five passport-sized photos

Procedure

  • General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).
  • Your company’s PRO should handle all the paperwork and fees.
  • Your previous employer will first cancel your existing residence visa and labour card; your new employer will then apply for a new visa and labour card.
  • Residence visas of any family members or domestic workers must be cancelled and re-applied for under the sponsor’s new visa. See the relevant sections.
