Shopping & Amenities
Berlin’s landmark department store, KaDeWe, lies at Schöneberg’s northwestern edge. KaDeWe is an exception, though, in a district where small neighbourhood shops define the urban landscape. Everything from Turkish greengrocers to leather-and-rubber-fetish-gear shops fills the side streets of northern Schöneberg. Most supermarkets, banks, chemists and pharmacies cluster around main squares that have U-Bahn stations, such as Bayerischer Platz and Nollendorfplatz. Arguably, Schöneberg’s most enjoyable shopping experience is the Winterfeldtplatz market, where you can buy vegetables, fresh bread, clothes, flowers and toys, or just sit at a nearby cafe and watch the action. While Schöneberg has plenty of attractive squares, larger green spaces are lacking, especially in the northern half of the district.
