Jewellery
While gold jewellery may be the most prevalent, silver, platinum, precious stones, gems and pearls are all sold, either separately or crafted into jewellery. Most outlets can make up a piece for you, working from a diagram or photograph. Just ensure that you are not obliged to buy it if it doesn’t turn out quite how you had imagined. A pendant with your name spelled out in Arabic, or some jewellery crafted with black pearls, are traditional gifts. The Gold Souk in Deira is the best place to start in terms of choice, but some of the air-conditioned alternatives may be preferable in the summer, including the Gold & Diamond Park.
Many of the world’s finest jewellers are represented in Saks Fifth Avenue’s jewellery department, such as Cartier, Tiffany & Co, Graff and De Beers. For watches, whether it’s a Rolex, Tag Heuer, Swatch or Timex, you’ll find most models here. Costume jewellery and watches can be found in most department stores; there’s a beautiful Swarovski range at Tanagra at Wafi. Several fashion stores also stock a small range of jewellery, and branches of Accessorize and Claire’s Accessories can be found in many of the malls.
