Car Accessories
Navigation Systems
GPS systems are available from Picnico or mainstream shops like Plug-Ins and Sharaf DG. Car stereos are widely available, and are sold by most electronics shops, with some of the car dealerships stocking alternative models for their cars. To have them fitted, head either to the workshops of Rashidiya or Satwa, or AAA and the dealers – it should cost around Dhs.500 if you are providing all the parts.
Window tinting
Many car owners try to beat the heat by having their car windows tinted. The legal limit is 30% tint; if you get your windows tinted any darker you could be fined, and your car won’t pass its annual inspection. Be aware though that company-owned cars are not allowed tinted windows. The options range from the Dhs.75 plastic film from the workshops in Satwa, to Dhs.1,300 to Dhs.1,500 at After Dark (covered by a 10-year warranty), and up to Dhs.5,000 at V-KOOL which is also covered by warranty, and its clear film is more heat resistant than the tinted one.
Customisation
Head to Al Qouz and Rashidiya to customise your car by increasing its performance – West Coast Customs (as featured on the MTV series Pimp My Ride) now has a showroom and workshop in Al Qouz.
