Giving Up Smoking

Following the smoking ban that came into effect in 2004, smoking is now illegal in any workplace in Ireland. This includes cafes, pubs and nightclubs. This can be a helpful environment in which to give up smoking since ‘trigger’ situations are reduced. The Irish Cancer Society has a helpline for smokers hoping to quit, in conjunction with the Department of Health and Children. The National Smokers’ Quitline can be reached on 1890 201 203 and calls are charged at CallSave rates. If you require further help, helpline operators can refer you on to the Smoking Cessation Officer attached to your local Health Board.
