Support Groups

The Irish are famous for emigrating, but in the last 10 to 15 years the pattern has changed and people from all over the world are moving to Ireland to live and work. Expat support groups are not common, but you should be able to find and meet other expats easily. Noticeboards in local shops, churches, specialist grocery shops or restaurants and internet site forums can all provide points of contact and links to support and social groups. Life in Dublin is broadly similar to most other European cities, and culture shock is not usually severe if you are from Europe.

For individuals and families affected by illness or disability, there are numerous specialised support groups. New mums’ groups, bereavement groups, widowed persons’ associations and 12 Step groups are available all across Dublin. You can find details of health-related support groups from your GP or local pharmacy.
