Pharmacies

Certain pain medication is available over the counter without a prescription, but most drugs, including antibiotics, must be prescribed by a doctor. A pharmacist can advise you about which non-prescription drugs are best for you, but they do not have the power to prescribe. If you are asking a pharmacist for advice, ensure that you tell them about any allergies or ulcers that may affect your response to medication. Make sure to tell them if you are on any medication already and always read the leaflet enclosed with the product. There are a number of late night pharmacies in Dublin, and most 24-hour shops will stock ordinary painkillers. Antibiotics are quite commonly used, but doctors are becoming more wary of prescribing them too often.
