Basketball
Spain are currently ranked number one in the world after the national team won the FIBA World Championships of 2006 (www.fiba.com). This win has given basketball a much-needed boost in Spain, and caused something of a basketball fever. It first began to appear in Barcelona in the early 30s, and today many sports centres in the city (polideportivos / polesportius) have at least one basketball court or multi-purpose pitch. Rental of the court for one hour will cost around €20, although lighting may have an additional cost. The Federación Española de Baloncesto (www.feb.es) and the Federació Catalana de Basquetbol (www.basquetcatala.com) are both worth consulting for information on national and regional updates and club rankings.
