Canoeing

You will find that most rafting companies and water sports clubs offer kayaking (piragüismo / piragüisme). River kayaking is particularly popular along the Noguera Pallaresa rapids near Lleida. On average, a half-day excursion should cost between €35 and €45, depending on the distance covered and the level of difficulty. ROCROI and Rafting Llavorsí both offer kayaking trips.

Sea kayaking is an excellent way to discover otherwise inaccessible coves along the Costa Brava. Excursions are typically half-day or full day affairs, giving you time to explore. Kayaking Costa Brava (www.kayakingcb.com, 97 277 38 06) runs half-day excursions that leave from Cala Montgó near L’Escala; they last four hours and cost €45 per person. Full day excursions (€51) leave from Cap de Creus.
Cercle d’Aventura (www.cercleaventura.com, 90 217 05 93) organise wakeboarding, sailing and half-day coastal kayaking trips (€40) as well as snow sports in the winter. If you would rather kayak in the Pyrenees mountains, contact Berguedà Nautic (617 698 984).

Near Barcelona, Canal Olímpic de Catalunya (www.canalolimpic.com, 93 664 57 73) is an Olympic-standard water sports centre in Castelldefels offering kayaking classes (€38 for one-hour), beginners’ courses and competitive team and club training. However, if you are already experienced and are simply looking to join a club, contact Kayak Club Premià de Mar (www.kayakbarcelona.com, 625 538 714) as they organise regular excursions, including kayak surfing.
