Flamenco Classes

The origins of flamenco are steeped in myth and mystery, making it such a fascinating art form. An accepted truth is that flamenco originated in southern Spain in the late 1700s. ‘Invented’ by gypsies (gitanos) in Andalusia, its character reflects the history and cultural evolution of the region itself, which is hugely influenced by Muslim culture. It is created by four main elements: dancing, guitar playing, singing and hand clapping, conducted by the compás. A Catalan version of Flamenco, named Rumba Catalana, emerged in the 40s. In Barcelona, you will find most dance schools and community centres offer flamenco courses. De Flamenco - www.deflamenco.com - is an invaluable reference for all things flamenco: guitar lessons, concerts, dance performances, private classes and even where to buy the best maracas.
