Rollerblading & Rollerskating
Rollerblading is becoming popular as a fun alternative to cycling. Every Friday night, hordes of rollerbladers take to the streets with the group ‘Rollerbladers of Barcelona’, and every day more people can be seen using blades as a means of transport. Unfortunately, rollerbladers are in a bureaucratic no-man’s land: they are considered pedestrians, which mean that roads (apart from quiet streets) are off-limits; yet they can’t use cycle lanes either, although the Rollerblading Association (APB www.patinar-bcn.org) is campaigning to change this. The boulevards of Diagonal and Passeig de Gràcia are ideal spots for pros and beginners alike, because of their broad promenades and smooth paving. For freeskate fans, http://fskportal.blogspot.com explains tricks using video demonstrations. If you want to put theory into practice, the skate park at Platja Marbella is a freeskate hot spot.
