Skiing & Snowboarding
Comparisons made between the Alps and the Pyrenees often sell the latter short. The Pyrenees do not quite have the nightlife or variety of slopes, but they are accessible and good value for money. Their proximity to Barcelona makes weekend breaks easy. Most of the ski and snow resorts (estaciones de esquí / estacions d’esqui) are a two-hour drive away and if you don’t have a car, trains run regularly from Sants-Estació. Remember to take snow chains if you do travel by car. There are many resorts in the Catalan Pyrenees, but for more challenging slopes it is worth popping over to Andorra (www.andorra.es). For information on all of the Catalan ski resorts and their winter and summer activities, consult www.catneu.net. If you prefer participating in a group excursion, Spanish Trails Adventure (www.spanish-trails.com) organises multi-day ski, snowboard and snowshoe tours.
