Motorsports

Catalans love motor sports, as evidenced by the number of professional racing drivers the region produces. The Centre d’Alt Rendiment (CAR) in Sant Cugat is where the most promising talents from across Spain receive specialised training, in the hope that one day they will reach the Circuit de Catalunya (www.circuitcat.com). The prestigious circuit in Montmeló hosts World Motorcycling and Automobile Championships and Formula One races. On a non-professional level, motorcycling is incredibly popular - the city has the highest number of motorcycles per inhabitant in Europe - and it is common to see groups of bikers travelling up and down the coast. It is worth planning road trips between April and October, when the weather is milder and there is less rainfall. The Federació Catalana de Motociclisme (932175501, www.fcm.cat) has information on motorcycling regulations and listings of all of the clubs in the region. For general car and motocycle information though, the RACC Automóvil Club (www.racc.es) is the most useful source.
