Going Back Home

Many mothers choose to stay in Beijing until shortly before delivery, and go home for the actual birth. Keep in mind that many airlines will not allow you to fly after 36 weeks into your pregnancy, and some have even stricter policies or require a doctor’s note. Doctors typically recommend that also you don’t fly for four weeks after giving birth. Take home a copy of your monitoring records; your local doctor should be able to give you a duplicate. Once you’ve given birth, register for a passport and a visa for your infant, and bring immunisation and medical records when returning to China. You are required to register children with the Public Security Bureau (www.bjgaj.gov.cn).
