Diving
A landlocked, often very cold city like Berlin may seem an unlikely place to learn to dive but more people go diving in the Spree River than you might expect. Also, the car or train journey to diving spots on the Baltic Sea (Ostsee, to Germans) is not particularly arduous. Diving clubs tend to be extremely social, and organise trips out of the city. The gold standard for diving education is the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), which lists affiliated clubs at www.padi.com. This training is recognised worldwide.
