Most skiing takes place in the south-east of the country. The closest real downhill option is in Harz, one of the northernmost skiing regions in Germany, with 234m to 1,142m mountain ranges. West of Berlin near Allenau, Harz offers 40km of beginner and intermediate tracks (harz-ski.de).
