Table Tennis
The obvious place to play table tennis is on the stone tables in most of Berlin’s parks. Although you’ll have to bring your own bats and balls, the atmosphere and free facilities more than make up for the inconvenience. Some parks have table tennis regulars, with hierarchies and whole micro societies, which can be fun to infiltrate. The Deutscher Tischtennis Bund (www.tischtennis.de) is the official organisation of the sport, which has its own Bundesliga. The International Table Tennis Association (www.ittf.com), which was founded in Berlin in 1926, is another useful source. A searchable map, with pinpoints of where table tennis is available in Berlin, can be found at www.berlin-tischtennis.de. Aside from outdoor and gym table tennis, there is also a culture of table tennis bars.
