Horse Riding
Berlin is one of the greenest cities in Europe, and its outskirts provide wonderful places to ride, explore and keep fit. The Lüneburger Heide, a track through Grunewald, has Germany’s longest bridle paths. There are also riding farms just outside the city where you can learn from instructors on their horses or use their stables. For information or meet ups with other riders, check out the Association of Amateur Horse Riders (www.vfdnet.de). Group lessons usually cost upwards of €15 per hour. Private lessons can cost up to €100 depending on the qualifications of the teacher and on the stable. Horse racing tracks (Trabrennbahn) are dotted around the city and are popular places to meet and gamble. To find out who’s racing at which track, check out www.berlintrab.de. The biggest and most popular tracks are in Mariendorf, Karlshorst and Hoppegarten.
